Pathfindr: Web App Prototype

Pathfindr: Web App Prototype

The Pathfindr web app is a prototype for a much larger, and more ambitious location-based gaming platform that is currently in development. The prototype was a featured game at Come Out & Play 2010.

If you are interested in playing the prototype, games are currently playable for:

  • St. Paul, MN
  • Brooklyn, NY

The games are accessible by accessing the web app from any iPhone (3G & newer). The original description of the prototype is as follows:

Pathfindr is a game of real-world exploration where players use an iPhone web app to find checkpoints, complete challenges, and race their way to victory. Think “The Amazing Race” meets “Foursquare.”

Looking at a Pathfindr game map, you will see two types of markers; Checkpoints and Challenges. Checkpoints are markers that you must visit in a specific order. A game of Pathfindr begins with you checking into the first Checkpoint, and ends when you check into the final Checkpoint.

Challenges are markers that will ask you to answer a question or perform a task that directly pertains to your surroundings. Most likely, you will be asked to find a piece of information that has been hidden in the environment and enter it into the map’s Challenge interface.

Challenges can be done in any order. The only rule is that you have to complete all of the Challenges before you are allowed to check into the final Checkpoint and complete the race.
